Anne Barth (WV-02)
The daughter of a United Methodist minister, Anne Barth was raised with a strong tradition of service to others.
Anne has proudly spent twenty-one years as a senior aide to Senator Robert C. Byrd. As Senator Byrd’s State Director since 1992, she has a clear understanding of the needs and concerns of the people of the Second District, and has experience getting results in Washington for the people of West Virginia. She supports strengthening early education programs and grant programs to help make college affordable. Anne also promotes repairing national infrastructure as a way to jumpstart the economy.
Anne earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and a Masters Degree in Communication from West Virginia University. She currently lives in Charleston with her husband Nick of 26 years. They have two daughters, Sally and Claire, who are both students at West Virginia University.
The State Journal of West Virginia calls Anne Barth’s challenge to four-term Republican incumbent Shelley Moore Capito the “race of the year in West Virginia.” Barth has the enthusiastic endorsement of Senator Robert Byrd along the other democratic members of Congress from the state. She also has the support of the West Virginia AFL-CIO, IBEW, Teamsters, United Mine Workers of America, the AFT and the West Virginia Education Association among many other organizations.
It is Democrats like Anne Barth, fighting to reclaim former Democratic districts, who will help change Washington and build the majority in Congress that President Obama will need.
