Dan Maffei (NY-25)
Public service has always been a part of Dan Maffei's life. He is an accomplished and trusted leader, ready to bring real change to upstate New York.
Upon graduation, Dan became a reporter and producer for Syracuse's Channel 9 where he worked on stories about the closing of important factories, job loss, the need for more high-tech development, and the economic and environmental pressures on farming, hunting and fishing.
A former Congressional Ways and Means Committee aide, Dan worked for former Senators Bill Bradley and Daniel Patrick Moynihan, and Syracuse Mayor Matt Driscoll. As an aide, Dan worked to preserve Social Security. He led the media campaign to provide tax incentives to American companies that keep manufacturing jobs here at home. He fought tirelessly to lower prescription drug costs for seniors by forcing pharmaceutical companies to negotiate lower prices.
Dan's upstate New York roots go back four generations. A graduate of Brown University, Columbia and Harvard, he currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Pinnacle Capital Management, LLC. He is an active participant of the Spanish Action League, the Tech Central Community Advisory Board, and Donors Choose. Dan is married to Abby Davidson-Maffei.
The 25th District is one of the best opportunities for the Democrats to pick up a Republican seat. This seat is open due to the retirement of Congressman James Walsh who, in 2006, Dan lost to by only 3,400 votes. Dan is running against Onondaga County Legislature Chairman Dale Sweetland. Currently, Dan holds a significant a cash advantage but the area has been a Republican stronghold and in 2004, the district favored John Kerry by only 1 percentage point. The race is a part of the DCCC's "Red to Blue" program.
