Jim Martin (GA)

Jim Martin, who embodies faith, family and patriotism, will help put Georgia and America back on track.

Jim knows how to get things done for working families and has spent most of his adult life working to improve the lives of Georgians.  After graduating from college, Jim enrolled in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam.  After completing his tour of duty, he worked as a legal aid lawyer, working for those needing fair representation in the courts.  Jim was later elected to the Georgia House of Representatives where he served for 18 years. 

In the Georgia House of Representatives, Jim helped pass PeachCare, Georgia's version of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) which provides quality, affordable health care to children who need it most.  Today, PeachCare helps over 230,000 children across the state.   Also in the State House, Jim served as Chairman on the Judiciary and Ethics Committees and a subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee.  Throughout his time in the state legislature, Jim showed fiscal restraint while also protecting vital programs for seniors, children and people with disabilities. 

Jim's service as Commissioner of Human Resources under both a Democratic and a Republican Governor is a testament to his ability to work with both parties.  In his capacity at Health and Human Services, he once again demonstrated fiscal discipline while preserving critical programs.

A lifelong Georgian, Jim holds three degrees from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Joan, have four children and three grandchildren.

This exciting race was one that was supposed to be a long shot for Democrats but in recent weeks has tightened.  Senator Chambliss, whose voting record is in lockstep with the Bush Administration, is under tough scrutiny from Georgia voters facing hard economic times.  Republicans are pouring significant resources into the state and while polls show this race is nearly tied, Jim needs your help today!
