Dina Titus (NV-03)

Dina Titus has dedicated her entire life to education and public service. She has taught government at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for thirty years and has served in the State Senate since 1988 – the past fifteen years as Democratic Minority Leader.

In the Senate, Dina has focused on education, and the environment, and she has fought to protect Nevada’s most vulnerable citizens: children, seniors, and the disabled. She sponsored the legislation creating Nevada’s Check Up Program to cover uninsured children, co-sponsored a bill allowing seniors and other Nevadans to purchase less expensive prescription drugs from Canada, and led efforts to crack down on sexual predators.

Developing renewable energy resources has also been one of Dina’s priorities in the legislature.  She has won passage of legislation to establish a portfolio standard, requiring utility companies to acquire a percentage of “green” or renewable power.

Dina Titus has serious advantages over the unpopular Republican Jon Porter.

1) The third congressional district is a swing district, including the suburbs of Las Vegas, which has been moving from Red to Blue. The Nevada Democratic Party has made substantial voter registration gains in the area, helping boost Dina's chances at being elected. Recognizing these changes, the DCCC has put Dina on their targeted "Red to Blue" program.

2) Dina is a seasoned candidate with a progressive and sensible agenda, and a record of experience to prove it. She is a candidate who knows what it takes to fight back against Republicans. Dina ran for governor in 2006, increasing her profile and name recognition across the state. Although she lost the race, she won the third congressional district by a significant margin.  In contrast, Jon Porter barely survived the '06 challenge by less than fifty percent of the vote.
